Here’s Why Springtime Is The Perfect Time For Romance
Spring, joyous spring! A new season means a new shot at finding love. Much like its effect on the flora and fauna, spring serves as a time of rebirth and restoration for humanity. If your dating life is in need of a serious refresh, look no further than rising temps and increased daylight hours for an excuse to hit the reset button. With blooming flowers, vitamin-D boosts from actual sunshine (gasp!), and outdoor activities available once again, spring is a date-planner’s paradise.
But how exactly can this change in seasons affect your romantic prospects? The phenomenon known as “Spring Fever” really does exist. Here’s why:
Less Clothing
Let’s start with the obvious: IT’S TIME TO GET NAKED. (At least, sort of). Saying goodbye to below-freezing temps means packing up those heavy sweaters and temporarily retiring the sweatpants. Puffy coats and face-obscuring scarves are replaced by body-hugging dresses and fitted T’s. Shedding those bulky winter layers in favor of showing some skin is the indisputable first step in attracting partners of the opposite sex. Our most primal instincts kick in and the physical attributes of a future mate help shape our initial impressions more so now than they did during winter. And what better way to show naysayers that you actually took to heart your New Year’s resolution of hitting the gym during the post-holiday months than by baring your toned limbs in tanks and shorts? If you’ve got it, flaunt it! Others will take notice.
Sunny Disposition
For an easy (and free) way to stock up on vitamins, look no further than Mother Nature herself, who can provide us with a healthy dose of vitamin D.
During colder, darker months, many of us experience vitamin D deficiencies due to a lack of sunlight. But longer daylight hours mean more opportunities to absorb the nutrient through our skin, which in turn can help ward off feelings of depression and anxiety. How much vitamin D you’ll actually soak up depends on the time of day, where you live, and the color of your skin. Those who can’t naturally get enough can depend on edible supplements. So go ahead: ask that cute girl out to lunch rather than dinner. Swap sleeping ‘till noon on the weekend for a trip to the farmer’s market or a rooftop brunch – anything that will get you outdoors to reap the benefits of a happy mind and tanned skin. Just don’t forget the sunscreen!
Clean Sweep
Even if you skipped “spring cleaning” your apartment (sorry Mom!), you can still attain a sense of renewal and rejuvenation by spring-cleaning your dating life. Jack Frost gave us an excuse to vegetate and hole up inside with Netflix for a few months, but consider springtime your wake up call. I’ll be the first to admit to overusing dating apps in the cold spell of winter – but now that our seasonal hibernation period is coming to a close, we’re at last able to meet real, live humans! Chances are that you’ve been neglecting potential love interests in your own backyard in favor of romancing your favorite Chinese takeout. I challenge you to ditch Tinder and start fresh with meeting someone in the here and now. Head over to the nearest rooftop bar or patio space for a post-work happy hour. Anything that gets you outside and in a social environment will serve as a welcomed mental break to fervidly texting suitors on your phone. And at the very least, Tinder or Happn will seem just a bit more novel after your little hiatus!
