You probably find yourself making promises to yourself, also known as resolutions, on a regular basis. Whenever you want to start anew or get better at something, you come up with plans big and small for accomplishing the goal. Your relationship might get some attention when creating these resolutions – “I want to make dinner for my spouse more often“. “I want to be kinder to my wife“. “I want to have more fun with my husband“. Few people, however, give their sex life much attention during these moments of epiphany and renewal. Perhaps, we take sex for granted. Perhaps, we don’t consider it worthy of resolutions. But, oh, it is. Here are some sex resolutions for couples:
Have more sex
One of the biggest complaints among married folks is that they don’t have enough sex. Change all that by finding time for sex. Do it more often by scheduling sex, letting it happen spontaneously even if you don’t think you’re in the mood, and making it a top priority. Try it. You’ll like it.
Have more fun with foreplay
There’s no question that a quickie can be really fulfilling, especially when you don’t have much time or you have little kids, so you are limited as to when you can do it. But if you completely give up foreplay, you’re missing out. It might not always lead to sex, but it will always be fun. Make out on the couch. Kiss. Touch. Have oral sex. The thing about foreplay is that it enhances sex and helps you feel more connected to your spouse. When you’re going straight for the good stuff, it’s hard to appreciate the coming together, the feeling of becoming one. Good foreplay is often the difference between having sex and making love.
Get wild
Vanilla sex – the traditional stuff you’ve always done – with your spouse is wonderful. Every once in a while, however, you might want some variety. Now, you don’t have to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. But you might consider sharing fantasies (and making some of them reality if you’re both on board), trying a new position, doing it in a different room than usual, dressing up (even if in just some sexy lingerie), etc. Think outside the box – err, bed – and you could be happily surprised. It could help you break out of a sexual rut, which is great for your marriage.
Be romantic
Feeling closer to your spouse than anyone else in the world is what makes married sex so special. Doing whatever it takes to reach orgasm – be it good foreplay or getting wild – is fine and well. But it’s actually not enough. Romance takes your sexual experiences to a whole new level. It doesn’t require as much work as you probably think. A few rose petals, some candles, or a love letter tucked under your spouse’s pillow might be cliches, but your spouse will still appreciate them. And they make people feel desirable and special, which usually makes them better lovers. It’s true, what goes around comes around.
Be faithful
The hope is that you’ve never had a physical affair or an emotional one. Still, you might have been unfaithful. You might have secretly watched porn or gone to the strip club, even though your wife has expressed her unhappiness at this. Or maybe you think about your ex a little too much. Or maybe you just don’t pay enough attention to your spouse. Now is the time to change all that and be completely faithful. Make the one who you are with your top priority and dedicate yourself to his or her happiness. You don’t have to become a slave or give up your own happiness for anyone. That’s not what we’re suggesting. Instead, just be a little less selfish and think about the other person a little bit more. A little effort goes a long way. You’ll see.
