Look, we’ve all been there. After a while, the undying passion you have for your partner kind of fizzles out, and you get stuck in a routine. And, believe it or not, sometimes a massive blowjob machine or a double-ended dildo isn’t enough to spice up the romance. Or, better said, they are too much. That’s why today, we’re doing the Monogamy review!
No, we’re not reviewing the ins and outs of monogamy (although that does sound like a fun topic). I’ve decided to switch things up a bit in our relationship and review an adult board game for a change.

I know my milkshakes usually bring all the boys to the yard and that you love my sex toy reviews. However, sometimes you can’t just pull a pegging dildo out of the drawer and expect it to make your sex life more interesting. Look, it undoubtedly would, but you probably need something else as well.
An adult board game is an ideal choice. It can help you connect with your partner, rekindle your passion, and even get to know them a bit better.
So let’s get this Monogamy review started and see what game is afoot, shall we?
What Is Monogamy?
Monogamy is, as I already explained, a board game. However, unlike other, PG-13 games, this one comes with a whole set of dirty scenarios, questions, and tasks. It’s essentially like a naughty version of Monopoly, except you don’t buy property. Instead, you collect naughty rings (not cock rings, get your mind out of the gutter!) that you put on your suspiciously phallic-looking playing figure.
If you’re a bit lost, don’t worry; I’ll explain everything.

The Special Monogamy Sauce
Honestly, there are a lot of adult board games on the market. If you’re a board game fanatic, you probably found a gem or two hidden on the back of the shelf in a board game store. Or, more realistically, an ad for one popped up on your social media.
So why Monogamy? Well, I think it’s a great game for everyone. My long-time readers already know that I love toys, aids, and accessories that are accessible to everyone. Although I enjoy items that are made specifically for one purpose (and thus are only accessible to certain people or a specific group of people), I firmly believe that sex toys and sex novelties should be “fun for all” items.
Monogamy is super easy to play. There are no convoluted rules or confusing play moves that you have to make. Instead, the game focuses on deepening the bond between your partner and you and giving you steamy questions that may or may not make you blush.
What’s in the Box?
Once you get your dirty game delivered to your doorstep, you’ll probably want to rip the packaging off immediately. At least, that’s what I did.
Once you do, you’ll find several different items in the box:
- The instructions manual
- A flaming hot red board
- Four different sets of cards
- Player pieces
- Naughty rings
- Dice
Now, let me tell you straight away – Monogamy is a two-player game. Therefore, you’ll only find two player pieces inside. They are also heteronormatively colored in pink and blue (this isn’t something I necessarily like, by the way).

The Three Levels of Play
The game is fairly simple. There are three different sets of cards, plus another set of Fantasy cards. While the first three sets are constantly in play, the fourth set is somewhat of a reward.
The entire objective of the game is that you race your partner to the finish line, and the winner gets to choose which Fantasy card is played out.
At the beginning of the game, both players pick (or draw, if you’re into the element of surprise) two Fantasy cards. You keep them with you throughout the game. If you win, you get to pick one of the two Fantasy cards you hold, and you and your partner can go off to the bedroom to play it out.
There are 50 different Fantasy cards, so the game will have a different outcome each time you play it.
Of course, because it’s not all about the destination but about the journey as well, getting to that final Fantasy card will be a wild ride.
To win, you have to collect two of each set of cards. So, you have to get two Passionate, two Steamy, and two Intimate cards (and complete the tasks on them), in order to win.
Let’s get to the juiciest part of this Monogamy review and see what the cards hold for us, shall we?
The Pink Innocence of Intimacy
If you roll the dice and land on an “intimate” field, you’re in for a soft, gentle beginning. Intimate cards are the most timid of the bunch.
The tasks and questions on the cards are less about sexual acts and dirty scenarios and more about intimate questions that will make you reveal something about yourself and your desires that your partner may or may not know. It’s a great way to learn more about your partner without necessarily outright asking them a dirty question.
Purple Passion
Purple cards are more steamy as they involve a lot of tasks that require you to touch or perform a specific act on your partner. Think of it as foreplay.
The Steamy Red of Desire
The final set of cards is the raunchiest, because it includes a lot of scenarios and tasks that will require you to get down and dirty.
It’s important to note that you can choose how far you want to take the game. If you’re not into some of the things in the Steamy pile (or even the Passionate pile), you can opt to play with just the intimate stack of cards. That way, you’ll still have fun with your partner without going all the way during a game.
To Monogamy or Not to Monogamy?
Of course, what other way is there for me to finish my Monogamy review than by telling you all about the good and the bad of the game?
The Pros:
- You’re not limited by the rules of the game. You can play it on any of the three levels, and there are some tasks that you need to complete after the game is finished. That means the game will spice up your relationship throughout the week (or month).
- There’s a great variety when it comes to both questions and tasks within the game. If something on the card is off-limits to you, you can pick another one and move on.
- It’s an excellent way to deepen the bond with your partner or just get in the mood for some dirty times.
The Cons:
- There are a lot of cards that include butt stuff. If that’s not something you’re into, you might get fed up with it. I suggest you just exclude those before the game.
- Some cards do require props. If you don’t have them, you might find the game less fun. However, you can just skip a card if that’s the case.
- The game is quite heteronormative. The tasks are clearly gendered as are the player pieces.
A Few Parting Words
Overall, if you’re looking for something that you can play with your partner during those long, boring Sunday afternoons, Monogamy is the game for you. It’s perfect both for new couples who are just getting to know each other and those who have been together forever. I hope you enjoyed my Monogamy review, let me know who won the first game!
