Got A Hot Date Coming Over? Here’s How To Get Ready, Step By Step!
As relaxing and enjoyable as a date night should be, having a new lover for the first time can be stressful: you don’t want to try too hard and put on a show, but you want your date to be comfortable. Plus, it’s inevitable that he or she will peruse your movie collection, judge the cleanliness of your place, and even check out the magazines next to the toilet. We all have particular priorities and habits in our own homes – so when uncovering someone else’s for the first time, it’s hard not to dissect how they live.
So with all of that said, how is one supposed to prepare for that first date night in? Following these steps will help clean up your place, set the mood, and make for a successful rendezvous at home without deceiving your partner about who you really are.
Step 1: Shop
- Rather than handing your date some leftover vino from last weekend when your parents were over, purchase a bottle of wine (or any drink of choice) to share together. This demonstrates that you’ve taken their comfort and enjoyment into consideration.
- Pick up the essentials: toilet paper, hand soap, candles, etc. – all the things you wouldn’t want to run out of on your night in!
- Ask your date for a few of his or her favorite snacks or appetizers and add them to your grocery list. This gesture will go a long way (and even further if you already know what to nab without having to ask).
Step 2: Clean Up
- Change your sheets (and if necessary, wash your comforter). You can’t give a tour that showcases a dirty bed – especially when you never know where the night could lead!
- Do your dishes. Your date doesn’t need to know that you had mac and cheese last night.
- Sweep, vacuum, and/or mop. There’s nothing worse than ruining a nice pair of socks because of a filthy floor. Do what you can to keep dirt off of your date!
- Put away any movies, magazines, books, photos, or anything “inappropriate” that you might not want your new companion to see. Better safe than sorry!
- Clean the shower. Ladies, hunks of your hair in the drain is not a turn on for guys; and gentlemen, remains of what you’ve shaved in there is just as gross. If your date ends up spending the night and needs to shower, he or she will truly appreciate the cleanliness.
- Most importantly, clean your toilet. No matter how clean you think you are, all toilets get really dirty really fast. Scrub it with your toothbrush if you must! (But don’t keep the toothbrush.)
Step 3: Set the Mood
- Create a playlist suitable for you and your new mate. It could end up being the soundtrack to your relationship, so make it good!
- Some of the things you’ve seen in a movie that seem cliché actually provide just the right amount of romance without making it look like you’re trying too hard. Light a candle or two, fluff your couch pillows, and get the lighting just right.
Step 4: Organize
Lining everything up on the table like a Bar Mitzvah buffet before your date arrives might make you look a little bit eager – but having the glasses, wine bottle, and appetizers all prepped and ready to go will convey to your date that you want to make the most of your time together. Nothing kills the mood like fumbling around in the kitchen while your date stares blankly at your walls.
Step 5: Relax And Enjoy
Now that you’ve set the mood and prepped for all that could come on your date night (or the following morning), kick back and enjoy that relaxing night with someone you fancy. You’ve earned it!
